Charger’s Playoff Game and New Downtown San Diego Stadium

This weekend has been quite busy in Downtown San Diego on account of the Chargers making it to the playoffs this year. Today’s playoff game with the New York Jets has brought a tremendous East Coast crowd on top of the load of San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles Chargers fans that are coming out of the woodworks. Hotels are reporting that they have very few, if any, vacancies and restaurants and bars in the Gaslamp have been hopping since Friday afternoon.

I attended a Young Professional Network event for Realtors at the new Hilton Bayfront last night before the installation dinner for the new president of the San Diego Association of Realtors. I happened to have a chance to talk with city councilman Kevin Faulkner and of course the Chargers were a topic of our discussion. Mr. Faulkner stated that there is a 50% chance that the new Chargers’ stadium will become a reality in downtown San Diego.

If the Chargers win today, these statistics will certainly be pushed over the hump and we get at least a 55% chance of our new downtown Stadium. More playoff games in San Diego means more revenue for the city and for local businesses. A new stadium brings the chance for San Diego to be one of a select few cities to become a consistent venue for events like the Super Bowl and the World Cup of Soccer.

May the Chargers be victorious today and may our city be alive with celebration this evening! Go BOLTS!!!
