It’s ‘Back to the Future’ on the Vintage Trolley!

Downtown San Diego:

All aboard, for a ride back in time on San Diego Metropolitan Transit System’snewest “vintage” trolley car.  After six years of meticulous restoration, the Presidents Conference Car #529 (PCC) had it’s maiden voyage around Downtown San Diego on August 18, 201.

Residents and visitors can now take a ride back in time on the Silver Line!

The World War II-era streetcar was originally built in 1949 and has been painstakingly restored from a non-operating antique, to fully functional trolley. It has been upgraded with wheelchair lifts, modern propulsion, and communications systems while preserving all the charm of the original vehicle. Even the hand-cranked windows along the top of the cars still work!

San Diego’s Silver Line Trolley offers a nostalgic ride in style!

The New MTS Silver Line regularly operates on Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays from 10 am – 2 pm. (Hours are subject to change during Padres season.)

Passengers will be able to board the Vintage Trolley at any of the stations it serves within the downtown loop (See map below).

  1. I’m a SDERA member who worked on restoration of 529, 530 and 531. Please help me contact the operator of 529. I want to ask him about windshield reflection glare, especially when operating 529 at night. The original “shadow aprons” installed on the 3 1946-era St. Louis, MO/MUNI San Francisco PCCs were removed during the restoration, and not reinstalled. I am concerned about this possibly NOT BEING A GOOD IDEA. Shadow aprons were put in 1940, 1941 and 1946 St. Louis Car Co. PCCs, because of the 30 degree windshield tilt angle, which was originally supposed to eliminate interior lighting glare, but the tilt angle created a glare problem with gang switch lights and fare box lights closer to the floor. Call Dave Slater, to validate my inquiry. My phone 858 565 2715.
