Downtown San Diego Information Center

It is surprising how many downtown San Diego Condo owners don’t know about the Center City Development Corporation’s (CCDC) downtown information center. The information center is a great resource for residents and newcomers to downtown San Diego looking for information about development, infrastructure, housing and or even just want an overview of the city. One of the best features of the CCDC information center is the 200-square-foot scale model of downtown San Diego’s 1,500 acres.

The Downtown information center offers many great publications that share relevant information about downtown San Diego neighborhoods including Little Italy and the East Village District. They also offer various maps of downtown that show points of interest such as art galleries, historic buildings, theaters, shopping and attractions. They feature short films that discuss the past, present and future of downtown San Diego and the San Diego bay.

For newcomers to downtown San Diego, I recommend the FREE bus tour, with the next one running on February 10. It usually begins at 10 am and takes about 1 hour and thirty minutes. The bus tour is a great way to enjoy a narrated tour of the downtown neighborhoods with an emphasis on the history of the growth of downtown, current redevelopment projects and future projects that are “on the books” to be constructed. On the tour, residential buildings such as Bayside San Diego, The Legend San Diego at Petco Park, and La Vita San Diego in Little Italy are discussed as a part of the live, work, play theme that CCDC promotes.

The tours begin and end at the CCDC downtown information center located at 193 Horton Plaza above the CVS Pharmacy. For reservations, call 619-235-2222. I recommend calling prior to confirm as during the winter months some of the tours do get cancelled due to a lack of reservations or poor weather conditions.
