Cruising the San Diego Bay

What a beautiful time of year for cruising the San Diego Bay! And there are many options when it comes to taking that boating adventure, depending on what you’re in the mood for.

One way to explore is with the Flagship San Diego Harbor Excursions, which offers a wide variety of harbor tours, whale watching, dining and specialty cruises, private charters, ferry and water taxi services. With a fine fleet of water vessels, this is one excellent option for a breathtaking day on the San Diego Bay.  Even if you’re not up for a day-outing, you can use Flagship’s ferry and water taxi service from downtown San Diego to Coronado and back. My husband and I recently took the ferry across to Coronado for a date night at Il Fornaio, and it was really fun to take the boat across the water rather than driving.

For a part land, part water sight-seeing tour of downtown San Diego and the San Diego Harbor, check out the null! These hydra-terra vehicles will take you on a 90-minute ride where you’ll hear about San Diego’s history, see its famous spots and cruise the beautiful harbor. Fun for tourists and residents alike, and a big hit with the kids!

Another excellent option is with Hornblower Cruises & Events, which offers a variety of harbor cruises, dolphin and whale watching excursions, sight-seeing tours (like the Sights & Sips Sunset Cruise), dining cruises, private events, weddings and more.  If you walk along the Embarcadero in the early evening you are likely to see people dressed up and ready to board their sunset and dinner cruises – it always looks like so much fun!

Head a little further north to Mission Bay and jump aboard the Bahia Belle Boat Cruise, a “turn of the century” Mississippi-style sternwheeler. The Bahia Belle features live music including swingin’ blues and great dance music, DJ’s, cocktails, and cruises around Mission Bay. Family cruises every half hour from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and Cocktail Cruises every half hour from 9:30 p.m. till midnight on weekdays, 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. You can hop aboard at either the Bahia Resort Hotel or the Catamaran Resort.

These are just a few of the options for getting out on San Diego’s waterways. Many of these offer great specials and coupons on their sites as well. If you’re looking for a new way to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or other special event, or are looking for a way to relax and enjoy San Diego’s beautiful sunshine, you should definitely explore the San Diego Bay!
