Downtown to Del Mar: Surf & Turf- Metropolitan Style!
Opening Day at Del Mar begins Wednesday, July 20th!
Need a little more spice in your life? Owning a condo in Downtown San Diego may very well be the key ingredient that you are missing!
Can you think of a better scenario than a train ride from your Downtown Condo on the Coaster to Del Mar, and then spending the afternoon in style at the races?
All aboard the Downtown Express Train to Opening Day at the Del Mar!
Just a short walk out your door to the Santa Fe Depot, and a $10.00 Round Trip Ticket will get you to the Solana Beach Station for a “hassle free” 35 minute commute. At the Solana Beach Train Depot, you can grab a bite to eat amongst the cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area. From there you can enjoy some fantastic shopping options in the Cedros Art & Design District. All before you hop on a FREE SHUTTLE to the Del Mar Race Track.
Keep a close eye on the clock because you will want to get to the track early…. The fist race posts at 2:00pm, but you will want to be there for the opening ceremonies and festivities, which begins around 11:00 am.
Show off your style at the biggest party of the year: The Truly Fabulous Hats Contest!
This is a Del Mar tradition that has been dated back to the very first opening day in 1937.
Hats contest entrants will be judged on creativity and style.
1) Best Racing Theme
2) Funniest or Most Outrageous
3) Most Glamorous
4) Best Flowers
The contest winner can be awarded over $2,000 in cash and prizes!
Opening Day is one of San Diego’s biggest parties!
People from all walks of life are brought together for a colorful and exciting event to kick off the summer’s racing season!
After an eventful afternoon at Del Mar, you will want to head back to the train depot by 6:00 to catch the last train into Downtown. This short commute will get you into downtown for a 7:00pm dinner reservation.
A $10.00 train ride from Del Mar to Downtown may be the most economical & worrry free ride you ever take!
Once you arrive back into Downtown, I recommend keeping the party going at one of the following locations:
Searsucker– Top Chef- Brian Malarkey’s latest creation!
Bencotto– Inspired by the authenticity of an Italian kitchen juxtaposed with modern scenery
Bice– Voted San Diego’s Best Upscale Italian Cuisine! The cheese bar is a must!
Cowboy Star- Fine Western Fare & Great Specialty Cocktails!
Toast Enoteca & Cuccina- Brings the wine bar concept to a whole new level with Authentic Italian Cuisine.
Oceanaire– A sleek & sophisticated setting for some of Downtowns freshest seafood.
El Vitral– Award winning upscale Mexican Cuisine. Fantastic Margaritas!
Imagine having options like this every night….. That’s the Downtown Lifestyle!

Del Mar is the most awesome place to go for the thoroughbred races–sun, excitement, and great racing! Make sure that you get the WinBy5.com Hotsheet before you go, so that you can also win money while having all that fun. They are experts who know everything about the races and they give you a game plan for the day’s races where you follow it and then cash out. They are the people who helped vault Joel Rosario to become the greatest jockey in the world.
