The New Children’s Museum Block Party

Don’t miss The New Children’s Museum Block Party this Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The street will be closed in true block party style!

The party is in celebration of the newest exhibit “TRASH” which was created by 12 artists sharing a common mission – to open our eyes to the amount of trash we create. The average American produces 4.5 pounds of waste a day!

The New Children’s Museum has been closed since September 12, 2011 for the TRASH exhibition build-out and it is finally ready to open. Museum members are invited to come to a special sneak-peek prior to the Block Party. The Members Preview Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and will allow members to be the first to experience TRASHJason Rogenes, exhibition artist, will be offering an exclusive hands-on workshop and light refreshments will be provided. Members are asked to RSVP to membership@thinkplaycreate.org.

The Block Party will include live entertainment, interactive demonstrations, hands-on art making opportunities, environmental and community exhibitors, trapeze acts, farmers market, food truck cuisine, raffle prizes and other special activities.

The line-up of events for Saturday, October 15, 2011 includes performances by Ozokidz, Junior Crew STOMP, The Platt Brothers (recent winners of America’s Got Talent), and more! Free Admission to Saturday’s events is sponsored by ScholarShare College Savings Plan.

The events on Sunday, October 16, 2011 are sure to please as well, with the kick-off of Hispanic Heritage Month with cultural performances and special bilingual activities. Performances by Todo Mundo, Manny Cepeda, dance troupes and more! Free Admission to Sunday’s events is sponsored by Target (who also sponsors Free Second Sunday).
