Downtown San Diego events in the Gaslamp Quarter include Mardi Gras, Taste of Gaslamp, ShamROCK, and Street Scenes. Mardi Gras, a Gaslamp phenomenon, is an outdoor celebration including two parades on Fifth Avenue, a fabulous block party featuring stages with musical acts, food, drinks, and lots of beads and is celebrated each year on Fat Tuesday. ShamROCK is Gaslamp’s St Patrick’s Day celebration, with over 40,000 square foot of Astroturf, they literally turn the streets green! Street Scene is a major outdoor music festival that has been rocking out Downtown San Diego for 25 years, with 45 wildy diverse bands on 5 stages over a 2 day period. For Taste of Gaslamp, guests take a self-guided walking tour through Gaslamp sampling delectable eats from downtown’s finest restaurants.
The San Diego Convention center draws hundreds of thousands each year with a variety of downtown San Diego events. The most notable is Comic Con International, the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world!
Downtown San Diego events in Little Italy include Art Walk, Carnevale, Festa, the Little Italy Mercato, Bocce ball tournaments, and Taste of Little Italy. ArtWalk is San Diego’s original fine art festival; the streets of Little Italy are closed off to display the art of hundreds of artists. The Little Italy Carnevale which mirrors Carnevale in Venice, features various vignettes of entertainment and a costume competition. Festa is one of the largest single-day Italian-American festivals west of the Mississippi, with entertainment, food, vendors and 100,000+ attendees. The Little Italy Mercato farmer’s market is held every Saturday on Date Street. With so many events, downtown San Diego you are sure to be entertained throughout the year!
