San Diego has a very vibrant music scene and no matter your taste in music, you’ll find something exciting in one of San Diego’s many venues.

Rock, alternative, jazz, hip-hop and cover bands perform at the many outdoor amphitheatres and boutique venues all over the region.

In the downtown area, there is a summer series of concerts at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay which has been graced by legends such as BB King and Willie Nelson.    Petco Park occasionally hosts a concert and is usually reserved for ultra celebrity artist such as Madonna or The Rolling Stones.  The annual Street Scene music festival features dozens of diverse bands such as The Killers, Black Eyed Peas, Social Distortion, TOOL, Kanye West and more.  Music resonates throughout downtown from the House of Blues, Anthology, and  a bountiful selection of neighborhood bars and restaurants that encourage San Diego’s emerging talent.

The Sycuan Arena, formerly known as San Diego State’s Cox Arena, hosts big name bands such as Pearl Jam and Radiohead.  The SDSU open air theater is also a popular venue for many rock and alternative bands.
Fans flock to south counties Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre to hear super stars such as Tim McGraw, Aerosmith, and Jimmy Buffett.  In the East County Area, classic bands such as Chicago draw enthusiasts to Viejas Concerts at the Casino.

The local scene is extremely exciting with favorites like the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, a long-time favorite for rock, blues, and world music which has hosted big names such as Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz to Little Italy’s Casbah, which has bolstered smaller bands to greatness ( Nirvana, Blink 182, the Smashing Pumpkins).   Soma San Diego has also been a very popular under-age venue for promoting our young local talented rock, alternative and punk bands.

The San Diego Symphony extends its musical genius at downtown’s historic Copley Symphony Hall. The San Diego Opera performs innovative productions and sumptuous classics in downtown’s Civic Theatre.  Lovers of classical music will certainly enjoy the Mainly Mozart Festival that has been a tradition since 1988.
